Play It Again, Sam, the 1972 that starred Woody Allen and was based on his script, is being released on blu-ray for the first time. The release comes from Kino Lorber, who announced that the release will come early next year.
Play It Again, Sam started as a play in 1969. It was in that play that Allen first worked with Diane Keaton and Toby Roberts. Allen sold the film rights early, and he wasn’t always set to star. The final film, directed by Herbert Ross, reunited the three leads from the play. It would set the stage for the romantic comedy films that Allen would later make.
According to Kino Lorber, they have gone back to the original takes to make a 4K version of the film for the first time. There’s no exact release date, but it’s being reported as early 2025. Kino Lorber make wonderful packages for classic films.
Here’s the trailer for Play It Again, Sam. It fills a key gap in the Woody Allen blu-ray discography.
I’ll have buy links and release date details as they get announced.
