Great news for European film fans. Italian cinemas are finally set to reopen after an incredibly difficult year. And one of the first films set to be released is the latest from Woody Allen – Rifkin’s Festival. The film will be released in Italy on 6 May.
Rifkin’s Festival tells the story of Mort Rifkin, a man who is visiting the San Sebastián Film Festival with his publicist wife. Out of his comfort zone, he starts of look back at his life, whilst having some strange cinematic dreams.
The film features Elena Anaya, Louis Garrel, Gina Gershon, Sergi López, Wallace Shawn and Christoph Waltz.
Here’s the Italian trailer:
And here’s the Italian poster, which matches the incredible artwork used for Spain.
Rifkin’s Festival opened in Spain at the end of last year but the cinema industry remained in trouble. It’s great to see cinemas returning. Deals are in place for the film’s release and there’s low risk on this one compared to blockbusters. It’s being released pretty quickly and will hopefully get a decent run with little competition.
The Italian release comes from Vision Distribution, and Italy is a huge market for Allen. He shot To Rome With Love and parts of Everyone Says I Love You in Italy.
Hopefully more countries will be announced soon. We will be following the film’s roll out in the months to come.
