It’s a new year, and the awards season is off. Café Society isn’t going to an awards triumph like other Allen films recently, but has picked up three nominations. Two of those nods were to two of Allen’s longest collaborators.
Cafe Society picked up a nomination at the Art Director’s Guild Awards. Production Designer Santo Loquasto has earned a nomination in the Period Film category. It is up against Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, Hail, Caesar!, Hidden Figures and Jackie.
This is Loquasto’s second nomination for an award, that started in 1996. He was previously nominated for Blue Jasmine in 2013. His first time working with Allen was 1980, Stardust Memories.
The awards are held on 11th February 2017. Variety has the full list.
The Casting Society of America Awards also revealed their nominations. One nod went to Juliet Taylor, Patricia DiCerto and Meghan Rafferty in the Studio Or Independent – Comedy category. It is up against 20th Century Women, Bad Moms, Hell Or High Water and The Edge Of Seventeen.
Taylor, who leads the team, has worked with Allen since Sleeper in 1973. This is her 21st nomination for a CSA Award, her tenth for an Allen film. She’s won twice for Allen films – for Hannah And Her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway.
The awards are held on 19th January 2017. Deadline has more details.
Not sure if Café Society will see more awards love. For all of 2016’s faults – the quality of independent and non-blockbuster cinema wasn’t one of them. We shall see.
