Gianni Schicchi, the opera production directed by Woody Allen, arrives at LA Opera in this month. With opera superstar Placido Domingo is set to star, LA Opera have been posting behind the scenes photos, and a new trailer.
The new production is based on Allen’s 2008 production. It was revived earlier in the year in Madrid, with Allen in attendance. Domingo was set to star in that performance, but pulled out due to family reasons. He performed a short set instead.

LA Opera’s blog has also been writing about the show coming together.
Allen is in LA right now, directing his 2016 film. With opening night of the performance on the 12th September, it seems likely Allen will appear. It is unclear how much direct input Allen has had in the new production, but he has leant his name to it, and has arranged for himself to be in town.
‘Gianni Schicchi‘ opens in LA on 12th September and runs through til 3rd October. Get your tickets here.
