We tend to avoid paparazzi stuff, but this was too weird to pass up. This week, Woody Allen was spotted in Russia alongside other film luminaries for the opening of Garage – a new museum of contemporary art in Moscow.
According to reports, Allen was the guest of the museum’s benefactors – Roman Abramovich and his wife, Daria Zhukova, the director of the centre. Amongst the guests in the film world included George Lucas, Harvey Weinstein, Leonardo DiCaprio (Celebrity) and Salma Hayek. Allen worked with Weinstein, making several films for his Miramax company in the 90s (from Bullets Over Broadway to Celebrity).
Here’s a video of Allen (along with Lucas and Weinstein)

Is there a reason the bazillionaire Roman Abramovich is courting people in the world of film? Perhaps Allen could find himself making a film in Russia one day. He has used a lot of Russian literature as comic fodder in Love And Death. Or… it was just a nice dinner.
We wonder what Allen and Lucas talked about, eh?

I think it was a nice dinner…and a nice paycheck…and maybe some film financing on down the line.
