When it rains it pours. A big January of announcements has been capped off with details of Woody Allen’s upcoming 2015 film – including the title. The film will be called ‘Irrational Man‘.
‘Irrational Man‘ is also a philosophical book by William Barrett. Credited with introducing existentialism to the English speaking world, it ties into both the reported serious tone, and the theme of philosophy in the film. The film’s main character is a philosophy professor.
Variety reports that the film has been sold, predictably, to Sony Pictures Classics, who have handled all of Allen’s recent successes, starting with 2009’s Whatever Works.
They also confirm the producers are Letty Aronson, Stephen Tenenbaum and Edward Walson.
Allen’s statement:
Sony Classics and I have a good working relationship. I like the way they handle my movies, very special, very classy and I always hope my films live up to their expectations.
Sony’s statement:
Woody Allen’s new movie Irrational Man, his latest annual gift to moviegoers everywhere, is as fresh and winning as ever.
We don’t know much else about the plot. We know the film stars Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone in starring roles. Parker Posey and Jamie Blackley also feature. Find out everything we know about Irrational Man so far.
No release date, but a betting man would say July. We eagerly await more details. In the meantime, what do you think of the name of Allen’s 45th film?
