We are still sad at the death of Robin Williams. Williams appeared in one Allen film 1997’s Deconstructing Harry, and his short and memorable appearance is our video of the week.
Williams plays the out-of-focus man, a character from a story by Harry Block, the title character of the film. The out of focus man is one of Allen’s most famous fantastical creations, up there with Zelig, or the Mother In Law In The Sky from Oedipus Wrecks.
Allen was one of the highest paid actors in the world at the time and took a significant pay cut to work with Allen. Allen had to get renown special effects house Industrial Light And Magic involved. It’s probably the only time Allen ever called them. Julie Kavner plays Williams’ wife. As far as we know, Williams and Allen never crossed paths again.
There are, of course, dozens and dozens more great performances and we could be here all day. It hurts too much to read article after article on Williams. The problem with the Internet these days.
RIP Robin Williams. Our thoughts are with his family.
