An amazing exclusive, Woody Allen was interviewed by Steve Vizard on Australian radio.
The occasion was the release of You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger in Australia. Steve Vizard is well known to Australian audiences, having been a TV funny man for many decades, from sketch comedy to talk show host. The interview was broadcast on Australian station 3AW.
The audio quality is average but the interview is quite good. Vizard is obviously a fan, knows his stuff, and asks some very insightful questions. Topics covered includes Allen’s work ethic, the power of cities, his love of Cole Porter and of course, ‘You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger‘. It’s a pre-record that is intercut with clips from Allen classics such as Annie Hall and Radio Days. He did discount the idea of coming to Australia to make a film because of the long plane journey.
Any direct Woody Allen interview is an occasion for us, and it’s interesting that Woody Allen, who is so against looking back, agreed to do this interview to promote a 3 year old film. Unfortunately, Vizard didn’t ask Allen what his 2013 is going to be like, meaning there is little new information here – this interview could have been made in 2010. Regardless, it’s an insightful, interesting 30 minute chat.
‘You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger‘ is out now in Australia. Originally released in the US in 2010, it only just picked up a distributor down under.
